A regular family devotion is the best way to disciple your children and grandchildren.
Today, family members are no longer living geographically close to each other. We are all too busy dealing with daily work, responsibilities, chores and stresses. We have very little time for family time together, let alone time for family devotions.
We encourage you to start a good habit of doing family devotions regularly with your children and grandchildren. In our church, we have excellent examples of how family devotions are carried out.
First, if your family members are dispersed and cannot gather in person, you can schedule a regular Zoom family time for fellowship and family devotion.
Second, if your family members are nearby and are able to gather in person, you should encourage each other to start a wonderful tradition of gather as family for fellowship and family devotion.
how to conduct family devotions
- Frequency: it should be daily or weekly - key is to do it regularly and repeatedly.
- Duration: it will depend upon the ages of the children and grandchildren involved.
- Content: ideally, the following components should be present: (1) fellowship, (2) singing of a family song - it should be the same every time so that even the little ones can remember both the music and lyric, (3) Bible reading - it should be short, and (4) prayer - everyone should pray even if it involves one-liners or is repeated after an adult.
That's it! there is nothing hard about it. And, you do not need to worry about preparation.
One final thought: please do not set a rigid rules for little children and please do not yell or become annoyed at the little children. Make your family devotions as fun as possible for the little children. They will remember the family devotion times as they grow up.
